PanicButton is a handy extension that can save you the embarrassment you could face when someone finds you browsing banned sites at home or in working place. The extension offers a one-click solution to kill all currently open tabs and restore the previously-opened tabs when there’s no one around. Let us take a look at the extension and its features.

The functionality of the extension can be accessed via the red button to the right of the address bar.

For use, just click the PanicButton icon and you will find all the current active tabs in Google Chrome will be closed. The color of the PanicButton icon will change from red to green indicating the tabs have been closed.

PanicButton stores the address of each tab so, there’s no problem in restoring the closed tabs just as quickly. Simply click the PanicButton icon once more and each web page is re-opened in the correct tab. If you prefer to use a hotkey to hide your tabs, configure it via the PanicButton Options menu. For this, right-click the PanicButton icon and choose Options. From the menu displayed in a new browser tab select ‘Yes’ option under the Keyboard Shortcut panel. Then, choose a key combination using the two dropdown lists. The hotkey combination is saved automatically after selection – press the two keys you selected to close the current tabs.

Panic Button is configured to display a blank page as its default behavior when activated. You can change so and force the extension to open one or more new tabs pointing at ‘safe’ sites. In the Set a Safe Page panel, select Custom Page from the dropdown list and enter the URL of the safe page into the field below. Click Add Safe Page and repeat the process to add additional pages.
